What should I expect from my first appointment?

  • Your initial appointment will take around 45 minutes. Dr Wilding consults by Telehealth, in person or by phone.
  • Together we will review your personal and/or family history of cancer. It is helpful to prepare this information before your appointment click here to enter your family history now.
  • We will discuss whether a genetic test may be helpful for you.
    • If genetic testing is recommended, we will discuss the testing options and whether there will be a cost for testing. Genetic testing is performed through a private company. If there is a cost this will be paid separately, directly to the company. There is no obligation to have testing. I will always act in your best interests and help you to make an informed decision.
  • Your cancer risk will be estimated and we will discuss ways to reduce your risk.
    • This estimate will be based on family history and/or genetic testing results.
  • If you decide to proceed with genetic testing, you will have your blood collected at a time that suits you and a follow-up appointment will be arranged to discuss your results.
